Malawi’s pangolin Tabitha Chawinga breaks record, becomes first person to win Italian Serie Woman Golden boot award

Scorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga has made history by becoming the first African player to win the Italian Serie ‘A Women Golden Boot’ award with 23 goals.

The Malawian talented player finished eight goals above second- placed Cristiana Gireli of Juventus Ladies.

Chawinga’s Inter Milan Women lost 1-0 to rivals AC Milan in the final game of the season.



Born on May 22,1996,Tabitha Chawinga is a Malawian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Italian Serie A club Inter Milan, on loan from Chinese side Wuhan Jianghan University FC, and the Malawi women’s national team.

At age 18, Chawinga played for Swedish third-division club Krokom/Dvärsätts IF where she earned the league’s golden boot after scoring 39 goals in 18 games.

She was the first women’s footballer from Malawi to play for a European club.
