By Rahim Abdul
The President of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), Fleetwood Haiya, has called on Malawians living in Tanzania to turn out in large numbers and support the Malawi National Women’s Football Team, the Scorchers, as they face Tanzania in an international friendly match this afternoon.
Haiya expressed confidence in the team’s preparations and urged supporters to play their part by creating a motivating atmosphere for the players at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The FAM president said the friendly encounter presents an important opportunity for the Scorchers to sharpen their skills and assess their readiness ahead of major continental assignments.
He emphasized that support from fans can have a significant impact on players’ morale, especially when competing away from home against strong opposition.
Malawi’s women’s national team is expected to use the match as part of its final preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled for July 2026.
The Tanzania fixture is seen as a crucial test for the technical panel, which will be looking to evaluate tactics, team chemistry, and the fitness levels of key players before the continental tournament.
The Scorchers have enjoyed impressive growth in recent years, earning recognition as one of the emerging forces in women’s football on the African continent.
Today’s encounter is also expected to provide valuable international experience for several players as they prepare to compete against some of Africa’s best teams at WAFCON.
As kickoff approaches, Malawi’s football fraternity will be hoping the Scorchers deliver a positive result and continue their encouraging journey towards the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, carrying with them the support and expectations of a proud nation.
