On Sunday, the Malawi police announced the death of a 40-year- old Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) power linesman Dean Aaron Chipiko who died after falling from the ESCOM pole.
According to Public Relations Officer(PRO) for Mponela Police Station Sergeant Macpatson Msadala on May 28, 2023, Chipiko and his fellow workers were on a project of installing optic fibre cables on ESCOM power lines around Mponela Trading Centre and surrounding areas.
At around 09:00 hours he climbed a pole just outside the Mponela ESCOM office.
While on top, the pole fell down and he sustained serious injuries.
He was rushed to Mponela rural hospital where he died in the quest of receiving treatment.
Postmortem conducted at the Mponela rural hospital revealed that the death was due to haemorrhage secondary to airway obstruction.
The late Dean Aaron Chipiko, hailed from Kafodya village in the area of Traditional Authority(TA) Phambala in Ntcheu District.
