Chakwera congratulates Tabitha Chawinga on becoming first African player to win the Italian Serie A Women Golden Boot award

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has sent his congratulatory message to Malawi Scorchers Captain Tabitha Chawinga for becoming the first African player to win the Italian Serie A Woman Golden Boot award.
The Malawian talented player finished eight goals above second- placed Cristiana Gireli of Juventus Ladies.
In a statement, the President says:'” We are incredibly proud of Tabitha’s outstanding performance and her unwavering commitment to the sport.”
Chakwera says Tabitha’s historic accomplishment is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and talent.
“She has not only made history but also inspired countless young girls and women in Malawi and across Africa.”
Meanwhile, the President has appealed to the general public to continue to support and invest in athletes, particularly women, who have the potential to excel on the global stage, creating an enabling environment that promotes gender equality and provides equal opportunity for all.
Born on May 22,1996,Tabitha Chawinga is a Malawian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Inter Milan, on loan from Chinese side Wuhan Jianghan University FC, and the Malawi women’s national team.
At age 18, Chawinga played for Swedish third-division club Krokom/Dvärsätts IF where she earned the league’s golden boot after scoring 39 goals in 18 games.
She was the first women’s footballer from Malawi to play for a European club.
