USA-based Malawians donate K2, 088,000 to Scorchers for their impressive performance at Cosafa Women’s Championship

Malawians living in the United States of America (USA) on Monday gave the Malawi National Women’s Football Team K2 088 000 in appreciation of their outstanding performance at the recent Cosafa Women’s Championship in South Africa.
The handover ceremony took place at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe
In her speech, a representative of the US-based Scorchers fans Emmi Waya Tchongwe said the group follows all sporting disciplines in the country and was moved by the team’s outstanding performance.
“They were driven by excitement and wanted to show it by appreciating the players, we want them to continue working hard and win more trophies in future,” she said.
On his part,Scorchers Coach Lovemore Fazili appealed to well-wishers to diversify their support instead of focusing on cash donations only.
“We appreciate when such kind of assistance comes but we have a number of challenges such as lack of training equipment, so we want them to help us,” he said.
Vice captain for the team Madina Nguluwe said the players are encouraged by the numerous donations from different groups following their performance in the championship.
The Scorchers wrote their own piece of history when they won the 2023 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship after beating Zambia 2-1 at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.
During the tournament, the Scorchers won all five matches.
They beat South Africa 4-3 , eSwatini 8-0, Madagascar 3-1 and Mozambique 2-1.
