The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has extended an invitation to the Football Legends Association (FLA) to participate in the bank’s 60th anniversary celebrations scheduled for tomorrow at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

A letter addressed to the FLA, which has been seen by ZBS News, was signed by RBM Executive Director for Corporate Services, Mercy Kumbatira.

According to the letter, one of the main highlights of the event will be a football match featuring the FLA Legends team against the RBM Social Team.

The match is expected to be a symbolic fusion of sports, history, and celebration, reflecting the bank’s commitment to community engagement and national pride.

FLA Board Chairperson Jim Kalua has confirmed the invitation and praised the initiative as a meaningful collaboration.

Kalua emphasized that participating in such a milestone celebration gives the association an opportunity to strengthen its network while contributing to a nationally significant occasion.

He also revealed that a number of iconic football figures, including Young Chimodzi, Kinna Phiri, and Chancy Gondwe, will be part of the event, adding excitement and nostalgia for football fans.

The presence of these renowned football veterans is expected to add glamour and draw considerable public interest to the celebrations.

Kalua further noted that such events are important in recognizing the role of sports in national development and in maintaining ties between institutions and former athletes.

As the Reserve Bank of Malawi marks six decades of service, the inclusion of the Football Legends Association in the celebrations underscores the bank’s inclusive approach and appreciation of Malawian heritage.

The football match will not only entertain but also highlight the power of sports in uniting communities across generations and sectors.

The commemorative event at Silver Stadium is expected to attract a diverse audience, including government officials, financial sector representatives, sports enthusiasts, and members of the public.
