By Jones Gadama
Malawi’s mining sector is set to receive a significant boost following talks between Minister of Mining, Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma, and Chinese company Sun Walk founder Hou Xingwang at the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) 2025 in Changsha, China.
Sun Walk has expressed a strong interest in investing in Malawi’s mining industry, with plans to establish a high-tech titanium processing facility.

The planned investment aims to improve local livelihoods, drive industrialization, and support the broader economy, according to Xingwang.
He cited Malawi’s mineral potential as a key attraction for the company, which already operates in other African countries, including Zimbabwe.
Ng’oma welcomed the interest, describing it as a “game changer” for Malawi’s mining sector.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, particularly through the country’s Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM) strategy and the Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship initiative.
The minister is leading a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Mining and associated agencies at the expo, which runs from June 12 to 15, 2025.
The potential investment by Sun Walk is expected to contribute significantly to Malawi’s economic development.
