Actor appeals for support to attend AMC

Kelvin Maxwell Ngoma, popularly known as Kelvin Kellz has been nominated to represent Malawi at the African Monologue Challenge (AMC) which will take place in Kampala, Uganda from July 27 to August 19, 2024.
He is calling for financial assistance to purchase a return air ticket worth K1.7 million.
Ngoma has featured in a couple of films in Malawi including “The Boy who Harnessed the Wind”, “Fatsani”, and “Is The President Dead.”
He believes that winning the competition would not only benefit him as an artist but boost Malawi’s Tourism Industry.
In an interview on Friday in Mzuzu, Ngoma said that the competition is watched by the entire African audience and people would learn about the heritage of Malawi through his act.
“The win will not only benefit me but my whole country, the competition is watched by diverse groups of people and they will learn more about Malawi and its tourism,” he said.
Ngoma said that the competition would give him the opportunity to connect with African Industry giants, network, and explore collaborations.
“The event organizers have provided everything except for transport and I am unable to raise the funds to buy myself a return air ticket which is costing K1.7 million.
“Of late, I have received a lot of backlash from my fellow Malawian over my plea for support. However, what they should understand is that I will be representing Malawi and my participation in the competition is for the benefit of our country,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer for AMC, Mawuko Kaudzi stated in an interview on Friday that the competition has entered its second season.
He said this year’s event will feature 10 finalists from 10 African countries, selected from a pool of over a thousand applicants.
The nominated individuals will stay in one Pan African House, sharing their unique stories and experiences signifying a united Africa.
“Our mission is to bring together 10 African participants who will be in the same house and our mission is to fight negative stereotypes about Africa through authentic storytelling,” Kaudzi said.
Minister of Tourism, Vera Kamtukule commended Kelvin for being nominated as part of the AMC this year describing him as creative.
The African Monologue Challenge (AMC) is a dynamic and transformative initiative that celebrates African creativity, amplifies diverse voices, and fosters unity across the continent and its diaspora.
Its mission is to empower African actors and creative by providing them a platform to showcase their talent, celebrate cultural diversity and present a positive narrative about Africa on a global stage.
