Jamaican Reggae Veteran Yvonne Curtis Eyes Africa Tour in 2026

By Rahim Abdul

Jamaican reggae and soca artist Yvonne Curtis is set to expand her international footprint with a planned Africa Tour in 2026, as World Reggae Promotion begins engaging promoters across the continent for possible performances.

Popularly known as the “Queen of Big People Reggae & Soca,” Curtis is expected to bring a blend of authentic reggae, lovers rock and soca music to African audiences through festivals, cultural events, reggae nights, and live concerts.

Born in Steer Town, St Ann in Jamaica, Curtis started singing at a young age before relocating to the United Kingdom in the 1960s to pursue a professional music career. Her breakthrough came in the 1970s after finishing second in a talent competition, a development that opened doors for her in the UK music scene.

Over the years, she performed with bands such as The Oakenders, Serenaders, and Wavet, where she spent 15 years as a resident vocalist and released four singles.

Curtis has also recorded under the reggae label Third World on Empire Records and staged performances in countries including Germany, Nicaragua, and Brazil. Her international exposure further grew through televised appearances on London’s Carlton TV and Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast Show in 1998.

The reggae singer has also graced major stages including London’s Royal Albert Hall and remains a regular performer at the Reggae Land festivals held in Milton Keynes, Hastings and Manchester in the UK.

Known for her hit song “Sweet Sensation,” Curtis continues to maintain an active presence in the music industry. In 2025, she performed a special tribute song for survivors of a hurricane in Jamaica during a live ITV broadcast watched by millions across the UK.

Currently signed to Digital Jukebox Records and distributed by Sony Music/Orchard, Curtis is now looking to connect with African promoters interested in hosting her during the upcoming tour.

World Reggae Promotion says interested organisers are being asked to submit proposed dates, venue information, technical requirements, and budget ranges for international guest performances.
