Blantyre Arts Festival, Blantyre City Council up with 2023 arts and cultural festival event

Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF) in collaboration with Blantyre City Council (BCC) is expected to hold the 2023 Arts and Cultural Festival for the first time since the annual event started.

Slated for October 7, 2023 at Kamuzu Upper Stadium in the commercial city of Blantyre, the event will be celebrated under the theme; “Celebrating Arts, Culture and Unity to Promote Participatory Municipal Management.”

The event which will commence with a street carnival from the Civic Centre to the venue, will have exhibition of cultural products, food and drinks, cultural narrations as well as performances in form of dances, drama and Live Band.

According to Founder and Chief Executive Officer for BAF Thom Chibambo, the joint venture will play a big role in enhancing culture and bringing people of various ethnicity together.

“It will be a nice event and we are calling all Malawians from different cultures to come and enjoy with us,” he said.

Dennis Chinseu from BCC said he is hopeful that the festival will bring culture closer to the younger generation.

BAFwas formed in 2009 and it is operating under the banner of arts and cultural development in Malawi.

It is one of the leading organizations in the Arts and cultural fields.

The organization responds to the need for development and to promote various sectors of arts and culture.

BAF presents the best of Malawian creativity to the widest possible audience by organizing events, festivals, cultural exchanges, local and international performances, and training programs.

It also provides social development capacity building and awareness programmes.

Its mission is to consolidate and promote Malawian arts and culture through interactive events and capacity building initiatives that lead to artistic liberation and socio-economic empowerment.
