The Public Appointments Committee of Parliament has confirmed Jean Philippo Priminta as Director General for Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA).This is after the committee held confirmation hearing on Thursday that led to her confirmation.
Joyce Chitsulo PAC Chairperson has told journalists that the committee has confirmed her after being satisfied with her qualifications, expertise and experience. Chitsulo said now the committee is expecting Priminta to discharge her duties in a professional manner now that the country is struggling with high levels of corruption.
In 2021 Pac rejected FIA acting DG Vincent Chipeta. The authority has had no fulltime DG since Atuweni Juwayeyi- Agbermodji left the job. The then FIA director of monitoring and analysis Vincent Chipeta was put in the position in acting capacity in December 2019
PAC also rejected Juwayeyi-Agbermodji as FIA director, 16 members of the committee voted no while three members consented to the appointment This was despite that Juwayeyi-Agbermodji, who holds a master’s in public international law and is a certified anti-money laundering specialist, is a member of the Malawi Bar Association. She was also, at the time, pursuing a master’s in anti-corruption compliance and collective action with the International Anti- Corruption Academy in Laxenburg, Austria
