By Durell Namasani
The new Irish Ambassador-designate to Malawi. Kate Brady, has reaffirmed Ireland ’s commitment to supporting Malawi’s development goals, particularly in food systems transformation and social protection.
Speaking after presenting her Letters of Credence to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace, Ambassador Brady highlighted Ireland’s long-standing involvement in Malawi’s national social protection system, dating back to 2013.
“We have been engaged in social protection for over a decade, and our approach has always centred on innovation. We are currently conducting research on how social protection can support people displaced by disaster and how climate finance can be used to help those most vulnerable,” said Ambassador Brady.
She also expressed her passion for Malawi, noting her appreciation for Malawian culture and the Chichewa language, which she attempted to speak during her discussions with President Chakwera.
In her remarks, Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba applauded Ireland government for continued support to Malawi’s national agenda through various development initiatives, reinforcing the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries.
