Chakwera arrives in Equatorial Guinea, holds talks with President Mbasogo
President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Thursday held talks with Equatorial Guinea President, His Excellency Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, in Malabo, on the eve of the Extra-Ordinary African Union Summit due to take place in Equatorial Guinea.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Malawi leader said that aside from tackling bilateral issues, they also addressed the humanitarian crisis on the African continent, in addition to transitions of power that are unconstitutional, and how best African countries can make strides on this front.
He emphasized the need for the continent to form a unified front and speak with one voice when addressing such issues.
The President who was accompanied by the First Lady, Madame Monica Chakwera, was welcomed at Malabo International Airport by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, Malawi’s Deputy Ambassador to Ethiopia, Diana Jere, and Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Francisco Pascual Obama Asue, and other senior government dignitaries.
He is expected to attend high level meetings on the 15th Extra-ordinary Summit meeting of the African Union (AU) on humanitarian matters and pledging conference, and the 16th Extraordinary Summit Meeting of AU slated from Thursday, May 26 to Saturday, May 28, 2022.
