By Chisomo Phiri
People’s Party (PP) President Dr. Joyce Banda has promised people in the northern region that her administration will construct the Orton Chirwa Airport if she is elected president in the upcoming September 16 general elections.
Speaking during a rally she held at Kabviwale Stadium in Mzuzu on Sunday, the former president said she will do this to ensure that people in the northern region have a modern airport, replacing the current inadequate facility.

She further pledged to modernize the Ilala ferry, making it more efficient and accessible to the public. Banda highlighted some of her past development achievements, including road construction and housing projects for the vulnerable.
Banda then urged people in the northern region to vote for her in the upcoming elections.
On his part, one of the party’s senior members, Chris Daza, also urged eligible voters to support Banda in the polls.
Daza asserted that Banda’s prior experience as president positions her well to bring about positive change, pointing to a period of perceived stability during her tenure.
Banda served as President of this country from April 7,2012 to May 31, 2014.
She took office as President following the sudden death of President Bingu wa Mutharika.
