Sacred Heart Cathedral marks 100 years of faith and community impact

Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima of the Zomba Diocese has described the Sacred Heart Cathedral as a cornerstone of faith and spirituality in the region.
He made these remarks as members of the Catholic Church gathered to commemorate the cathedral’s 100th anniversary.
During the centenary celebrations, Bishop Chaima led Mass, highlighting the cathedral’s pivotal role in nurturing the spiritual lives of its congregation.

The event was attended by several prominent church leaders, including Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa from the Blantyre Archdiocese.
Also present was Bishop Peter Martin Musikuwa from the Diocese of Chikwawa, demonstrating the regional significance of the cathedral.
The celebration drew political figures as well, including Dalitso Kabambe, leader of the UTM Party, and James Mpunga, a respected southern legislator from Zomba.
Speaking to the press, Dalitso Kabambe praised the Sacred Heart Cathedral for its enduring contribution to the Christian faith.
He noted that the cathedral has inspired countless believers in both their spiritual and daily lives.
Kabambe highlighted that the cathedral has provided guidance, strengthened faith, and encouraged the growth of committed believers in the community.
He also emphasized that Sacred Heart Cathedral continues to serve as a beacon of hope and a spiritual home for generations of worshippers.
The centenary celebration showcased the cathedral’s legacy in building faith, fostering community, and promoting spiritual development across Zomba and beyond.
