The Lilongwe Police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the K52 million robbery at Capital Printing Press in Area 4, Lilongwe.
A fourth suspect, Douglas Mulumbe, aged 37, of Benesi Village, Traditional Authority Ganya in Ntcheu District, has been arrested in connection with the crime.
According to Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Mulumbe was apprehended during a daytime raid at his girlfriend’s house in Area 23, where he had been hiding.
Upon interrogation, Mulumbe admitted to taking part in the robbery and receiving a share of K7 million, which he used to purchase a piece of land and a mattress.

The police have recovered both the land and the mattress, valued at K3.8 million and K85,000, respectively. The arrest brings the total number of suspects to four, all of whom are from Ntcheu District.
Therefore the other three suspects, Welford John, 29 years old, Sautso Mandala, aged 44, and Samuel Kasala, 42, were previously arrested in connection with the crime.
The robbery occurred on March 11, 2025, when the suspects, armed with panga knives and metal bars, invaded the Capital Printing Press offices, tied up two security guards, and broke into the office where they dismantled a money safe and stole K52 million.
The police are still searching for one more suspect, Patrick Mtengula, who remains at large. The arrested suspects will face robbery charges in court.
