Education without good attitude is meanless President Chakwera challenges graduating students

State President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has challenged Mzuzu University graduating students to embrace good morals in order for them to achieve meaningful life.
President Chakwera said this at Grand Palace Hotel in the City of Mzuzu, where he presided over the 27th Mzuzu University (MZUNI) Congregation Gala.
This is what President Chakwera said; “The first thing about yourself is that you will need to overcome so that your education doesn’t become useless is your bad attitude. You need to understand that what you destroy with your bad attitude, you cannot fix with your good education,”

Chakwera said a good attitude is a great treasure to have, and if one do not have then poverty is greater than that of a person who has no job or money.
While a good education has the power to open doors for you, the President said it is your attitude that determines how far you will go once you’ve walked through that door and how long you will be allowed to stay in that room.
“And in my experience both in life and at work, I have found that the eight worst attitudes that you will need to constantly
overcome in yourself are the attitudes of self-absorption, condescension, reluctance, rudeness, stubbornness,
pessimism, pettiness, or self-pity,” he said.
He said if people who call themselves graduates show up anywhere with their education but forget to leave themself-absorption behind, their education will soon become useless.
“No matter what skills you have acquired through your education, no one will want to be around you if they see in you the attitude of caring about no one but yourself. And people who have an attitude of self-absorption are hard to miss, because they take all the credit for teamselves.” He said.
The First Session of the Congregation which takes place today, included postgraduate candidates from all Faculties and undergraduate candidates from the following faculties; Humanities and Social Sciences, Statistics, Tourism, Hospitality, Management, Technology, and Innovation.
The Second Session of the Congregation which takes place on 16th May, 2025 will include undergraduates from the following faculties; Health Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Education.
Accompanied by First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera, the Malawi leader was welcomed on arrival by MZUNI Vice Chancellor Professor Wells Singini, Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Jessie Kabwila; Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba, Speaker of National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara and several other top government officials.
