DPP Unity Intact despite criticisms over Presidential Advisors appointments
By Twink Jones Gadama
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has once again demonstrated its resilience and unity in the face of baseless allegations of internal cracks.
The latest attempt by the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to destabilize the opposition DPP has been exposed as a desperate ploy to discredit the party’s growing momentum.
Contrary to MCP’s claims, the DPP’s recent appointments of presidential advisors have been hailed as a strategic move to bolster the party’s leadership and prepare for its imminent return to government.
The appointments, which include seasoned politicians and experts like Dr. Clement Mwale, Dr. George Chaponda, and Everton Chimulirenji, have been widely welcomed by party members and supporters.
However, MCP, still reeling from its own internal power struggles, has sought to capitalize on a few isolated WhatsApp messages to peddle a false narrative of cracks within the DPP.
The messages, which were taken out of context and blown out of proportion, were merely an expression of individual opinions and not representative of the party’s collective stance.
DPP’s Secretary General, Peter Mukhito, has categorically dismissed the allegations, pointing out that the party’s constitution grants the president the authority to appoint advisors.
“These advisors report directly to the president and do not hold any operational responsibilities within the party structures,” Mukhito clarified in a statement.
It is evident that MCP is growing increasingly uneasy about the DPP’s resurgence and its own dwindling fortunes.
With the DPP’s elective convention held on August 18, 2024, having passed without incident, MCP has been left grasping at straws to discredit its main rival.
The DPP’s unity and cohesion are a testament to its strength and determination to reclaim power. While MCP continues to indulge in petty politics and fabricate divisions within the DPP, the opposition party remains focused on its mission to serve the people of Malawi.
The DPP’s unity remains intact, and the party is more determined than ever to return to government.
MCP’s attempts to sow discord and destabilize the DPP will only serve to strengthen the party’s resolve and solidify its position as the leading opposition party in Malawi.
