Dowa District Council launches ambitious 5-year plan for clean water, sanitation

On Tuesday May 7,2024 , the Dowa District Council launched a groundbreaking five-year Strategic Investment Plan for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene(WASH) , paving the way for a healthier and more prosperous future for its residents.

This innovative initiative, made possible by SelfHelp Africa, aims to provide universal access to safe and potable water, while promoting excellent sanitation practices.

Its chairperson Mayamiko Kambewa hailed the plan as a game-changer, emphasizing its potential to transform the lives of district residents.

“We are thrilled to embark on this journey, ensuring that every individual has access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities,” Kambewa said.

Assistant Executive Director for SelfHelp Africa, Joseph Kiambuti, urged stakeholders to join forces, stressing that collective efforts are crucial to achieving the plan’s ambitious targets.

“Together, we can make a significant impact and create a lasting legacy for the people of Dowa District,” Kiambuti emphasized.

Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Liana Chapota Kakhobwe, commended the district council for embracing policies that can drive economic growth and transformation.

“By prioritizing water, sanitation, and hygiene, we can unlock the full potential of our communities and propel our nation forward,” Kakhobwe said.

This Strategic Investment Plan marks a significant milestone in Dowa District’s development journey, demonstrating the power of collaboration and innovative thinking.
