Corporate Donation Uplifts SOS Children’s Village: Calls for Continued Support Amid Financial Struggles
By Burnett Munthali
The SOS Children’s Village recently received a generous donation aimed at encouraging children to excel in their studies, made by a local corporation as part of its community outreach efforts. The event, filled with vibrant traditional dances, saw the company’s Human Resources and Administration Manager, Harawa, hand over various essential items to the children.
Harawa emphasized that the company decided to make the donation to inspire the children to work hard in their education. “We are excited and so happy to be here with you today. Our aim is to give back to the community, and we believe that these items will help you in your studies and daily life,” he said. The gesture not only provided much-needed resources but also gave the children a sense of motivation and hope for a brighter future.
The donation comes at a crucial time for the SOS Children’s Village, which has been grappling with financial challenges. Victor Jamo, the institution’s Partnership Development Manager, expressed his gratitude for the support but also appealed for more assistance. “We are facing financial challenges, especially in covering utility bills and providing education support for the children,” Jamo said, underscoring the pressing need for continued donations and partnerships to ensure the well-being and future success of the children under their care.
One of the program’s beneficiaries, Julia Kevin, who recently scored 15 points in the 2024 MSCE examinations, expressed her deep appreciation for the support she has received. “This support has helped me excel in my studies. Thanks to these contributions, I have been able to focus on my lessons without worrying about basic necessities,” she said. Julia’s success story highlights the tangible impact that such donations can have on the lives of young people striving to achieve academic excellence.
The SOS Children’s Village continues to play a critical role in providing care, education, and a safe environment for children in need. However, as Jamo highlighted, the organization is currently struggling to meet its operational costs, particularly with rising utility bills and other essential expenses. The recent donation, while greatly appreciated, is just one step toward addressing the larger financial challenges that the village faces.
As the SOS Children’s Village looks to the future, the need for more corporate and community support is clear. With sustained partnerships and donations, the organization can continue to provide crucial services to children, helping them build a foundation for success in their education and beyond.
