Chakwera turns Inkosi M’mbelwa University dream to life, first intake August 2025

President Lazarus Chakwera’s bright ambition to revive the dream of having a public university in Mzimba is manifesting following the rolling out of construction work at the site situated a few kilometers away from Mzimba Boma and short distance to the M1-Mzimba turn-off road junction.
Visiting the facility site on Monday, 8th January 2024, Education Minister, Madalitso Kambawuwa Wirima was impressed with how the construction work has started which is expected to finish in 2027 with its first phase completion expected by June 2025.
“When the project is done, it will create ten thousand spaces for our youths to be equipped with knowledge and skills which in turn will help to grow the economy of this country. Our plan is that we have the project to finish in June next year so that we have the first intake by August 2025 at Inkosi Ya Makhosi M’mbelwa University,” Said Wirima.
Kambawuwa in an interview with the media, assured Malawians that the project is not a campaign tool for President Chakwera but one way of making sure that there is development in all parts of the country, saying the project could have started two years ago as directed by the President but was delayed due to various processes towards its establishment and calamities that hit the country.
The University which among others will have School of Basic Science including Veterinary, and Animal Science is to cost K450 billion with the first phase perked at K150 billion.
