Mangochi asks Chakwera to do something for civil servants
By Vincent Gunde
Karonga based activist Lyton Mangochi, has asked President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera to listen to the voices, cries and sufferings of civil servants following 44 percent devaluation of the Malawi Kwacha for them to remember him after 2025.
Mangochi said President Chakwera must do one thing for civil servants and if he sees a problem, he should go to Tanzania and Zambia to learn from fellow presidents what they are doing in their countries for their civil servants.
He said Parliament announced a 10 percent salary increase to all civil servants describing this as a mockery and an insult saying this is far away from the 44 percent of the Kwacha devaluation putting the low paid civil servants into panic.
Speaking through a video clip circulating in various social media platforms, Mangochi has advised civil servants to dissolve the leaderships of Civil Servants Trade Union (CSTU) and Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) claiming that these mother bodies are in the armpit of MCP led government.
Mangochi has asked civil servants not to listen to the leaderships of the two mother bodies claiming that they pocket money from government to deceive their friends that they are holding discussions with government hence all to return to work.
He said as nurses have thrown warning shots to government to put down their tools on 29th December, 2023 followed by all civil servants from 9th January, 2024, this is the time to have close watch at their leaderships which will come to them with sweet tongues for all to return to work.
The activist said all civil servants’ bodies leaderships are under the MCP influence and as a result if care is not made, civil servants going for a peaceful-sit -in on 29th December, 2023 and from 9th January, 2024 will end in tears with nothing from government.
Mangochi has asked President Chakwera that what type of President he is as he cannot see that hospitals are running without medical drugs and Ambulances are grounded while him and his Cabinet Ministers are smiling that everything is good in Malawi.
“When Chakwera was Leader of Opposition in Parliament, he was vocal but all this vocals ended when he entered State House, he has changed, he is no longer the real Chakwera Malawians expected of him,” said Mangochi.
He has since asked for an appointment to meet President Chakwera on one-on-one meeting for him to tell him in person that his advisors and those surrounding him are not wishing him well, they are advising him wrongly that things are good on the ground.
Mangochi has finally accused President Chakwera’s lieutenant of advisors of not helping him but deceiving him making Malawians lose trust in Chakwera as their president and regretting to have voted for him in the June, 2020 elections.
