Chakwera arrives safely in Cairo, Egypt

Malawi Leader President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Sunday arrives in Cairo, Egypt where he will be attending the Presidential Summit at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) organised by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), that will take place at the Egypt International Convention Centre (Al-Manara).
On arrival at Cairo International Airport, President Chakwera was welcomed by Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports ; Hon. Sosten Gwengwe, Minister of Trade; Ambassador Catherine Kunje, Envoy of the Republic of Malawi to the Arab Republic of Egypt, among other officials from both governments.
Chakwera trip to Egypt follows another successful tour of duty in Saud Arabia where he went to witness the signing of funding agreement for the Mangochi Makanjira road.
President Chakwera, hailed Saud Arabia for being a true partner.
The president, who was in Saud Arabia for the Saudi-Africa Summit, described the day as historic for Malawi and for Malawians.
President Chakwera said, on behalf of Malawians, he was thanking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the partnership through Saudi Fund for Development for the support towards the road project.
Chakwera said since the beginning of development cooperation in 2010, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided about 50 million dollars’ worth of concessional loans, which have gone a long way in cementing the partnership between two nations.
