Inkosi Mzuzuzuku of Mzimba has hailed Comsip Cooperative Union Limited for implementing life transforming programmes in his area.
Speaking during a media tour of Comsip programmes in the area, Inkosi Mzukuzuku said through the Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme, members of Comsip savings and loan groups have managed to procure bags of fertiliser for this season.
“Through the groups, they engage in small scale businesses, save and lend each other money which they are using to procure the fertilizer. This is a good initiative as it will enhance food security in my area,”he said.
On his part, Chiputa catchment area community facilitator Lauren Tembo said the area has 304 members of Comsip cooperatives.
He said: “Some are making Mbeya fertiliser to maximise productivity. We understand that not everyone can benefit from the Affordable Input Programme.”
Comsip through the Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme which is under the Livelihoods Support Program of the Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Project is encouraging members in Comsip Savings and Loan Groups to enhance their economic capacity through savings and investment to be able to purchase fertiliser.
About 471 000 members of Savings and Loan Groups are benefiting from the Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Program across the country.
