Two pastors and another person are in police custody for allegedly being found in possession of a live pangolin.

According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the three were arrested at Agricultural Research and Extension Trust roadblock near Kaunda Roundabout, Mchinji road.

He identified the suspects as Innocent Kalulu, 45, Jonathan Chapotela, 36 (both pastors of a certain Ministry) and MacDonald Chimphanje, 39.

“On the said day at around 16:00 hours, police officers who were manning the check point, stopped a Toyota Ractis motor vehicle registration number DZ 5267 that was coming from Mpingu, heading to Capital City.

“Upon searching, the law enforcers came across a laptop bag with a sack inside that contained the said listed endangered animal,” explained Chigalu.

Meanwhile, the animal has been taken to Lilongwe Wildlife Centre and the suspects will be taken to court soon to face applicable charges.
