Minister Namalomba clarifies no-examination-fee policy applies only to public schools

By Burnett Munthali
Minister of Information and Communications Technology and Government Spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba, has clarified that the recently announced policy waiving examination fees applies strictly to public schools.
He made the statement in Parliament while responding to a question from a legislator who asked the government to extend the initiative to learners in private schools nationwide.

Namalomba explained that the policy primarily targets students in government-owned primary and secondary schools whose parents are unable to afford examination fees.
He further noted that, while the policy focuses on public schools, special cases involving vulnerable students in private schools may be considered on an individual basis.
The clarification aims to provide guidance on the scope of the no-examination-fee policy and manage expectations among parents and school communities.
The announcement reiterates the government’s commitment to supporting education for children from low-income households while maintaining a clear framework for policy implementation.
