Father in custody over death of son after house torching
By Chisomo Phiri
Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 51-year-old man identified as James Chiusi, for being suspected of setting ablaze a house that led to the death of his biological son, Fatsani James, 20, over the weekend, at Chinkhowe Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chitekwere in the district.
It is reported that on the day of the incident at around 20:00 hours, the suspect (Chiusi) quarrelled, and later assaulted his wife (deceased’s mother), suspecting that she was having extra marital affairs.
Following the assault, the suspect’s wife fled for her safety to a nearby village, leaving behind their 20-year-old son, Fatsani.
Chiusi then turned his anger towards his house by setting it ablaze whilst Fatsani (deceased), was still sleeping inside.
Efforts by villagers to save Fatsani from the inferno proved futile, as the fire had already consumed a larger part of the house.
Postmortem by Mthenthera Health Centre revealed that Fatsani died of suffocation, secondary to excessive heat.
James Chiusi will appear in court soon to face a charge of murder.
He hails from Lukiyo Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chitekwere in Lilongwe District.
