Mercy leadership as Chakwera set to pardon 2,298 prisoners during independence day celebration

The Malawi’s servant leader Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in exercise of power accorded to him under section 89(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi is set to grant pardon to a total of 2,298 prisoners as part of 2023 Independence Day Celebrations.

Confirming the development in a statement, Minister of Information and Digitization Moses Kunkuyu says the prisoners to be pardoned include those who have served half of their sentences, the elderly, the chronically ill, and female convicts who were accompanied by their children to prison.

Tomorrow 6 July, 2023, Malawi is celebrating 59 years of independence.

The main celebrations of the day which include a football match between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Yanga football club from Tanzania will take place at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.
