Nation mourns renowned actor ‘Thlupego Chisiza’

Tributes are pouring in following the suden death of renowned actor, Thlupego Chisiza who died on Sunday morning at the age of 40.

Chisiza who was son to Malawi’s legendary actor the late Du Chisiza Junior, died in Ndirande after he had complained about feeling weak, afew weeks after being diagnosed with diabetes.

Breaking the news on Facebook, her sister Serah Chisiza wrote; “A Thlupe inuyo… May your soul rest in peace my bro. I will miss you Kaluli.”

Another renowned actor cum marketer Emmanuel Maliro, described Chisiza as a gifted actor who could play any character given to him. “In theater circles, Thlupego truly stood out as one of the finest actors, following in the footsteps of his father. We shared the stage in numerous projects, collaborating on radio dramas at MBC, such as “Theatre of the Air,” “Story Workshop – Tiritonse,” and “Zimachitika.” Together, we ventured into the world of stage plays with Nanzikambe and even explored the art of movies.”

Stand up comedian Felistus Ngwira popularly known as Nya-Uyu said Thlupego mentored a lot of people including herself and introduced her to big stages in the theater industry.

“The legacy you have left will still live. The seed you planted in us will be transferred to generations.I can never talk about my journey without mentioning you because in me there is Chisiza vibes that we took after you.
Once a Lion always a lion . Rest well King of the stage Chi genius You lived your life ooh what a free and open minded person you were.” reads her Facebook post in part.

Another Actor who also works as a radio presenter at the State Broadcaster-MBC, Stanley Kadzuwa wrote;
“Thlupego Du Chisiza ,May you rest well. A brother in Arts.You lived arts.An artistic Life.We thank God.”

Burial arrangements for the late Thlupego Chisiza are expected to be announced later in the afternoon.

Chisiza’s death comes just over a week after the death of veteran comedian ‘Gogo Mlewa’ who was laid to rest in Lilongwe on 8th June, 2023.
