Jescar Mponda Crowned Miss Malawi

A Twenty three-year-old Jescar Mponda is the new Miss Malawi after beating 11 other contestants during the finals of the beauty contest which took place at Bingu International Convention center ( BICC) in Lilongwe last night.
Hlezipe Jade Chikhwaza is the first princess while Roberta Kanjero is the second princess.
However, patrons were not satisfied with the results which resulted into some of them chanting mwabera as they expected Hlezipe to carry the crown.
The ceremony was presided over by First Lady Monica Chakwera and was organised by Alpha Arts.Speaking at the Grand Finale, one of the organisers Crara Pinyade Saeluzika thanked the audience and the partners for the support they got from the start.
On his part,Minister of Tourism and Culture Michael Usi,urged the winner to make the best use of her win in advocating the change most especially among the Children.
Usi observed that those who are crowned Miss Malawi are among important people in the country as they have a huge role to play in supporting lives of vunerable children in achieving their goals.
In 2021, the new Miss Malawi Jescar Mponda was selected to represent Malawi at Miss East Africa beauty pageant which was held in Dar es Salaam Tanzania on December 17.
The event attracted 16 beauties from 16 countries namely Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Seychelles, Somalia, Reunion, Djibouti, Comoro, Madagascar, Mauritius, Eritrea, and South Sudan.
Miss Malawi is a national beauty pageant in Malawi.
It began in the 1970s and was later suspended, commencing again in 2001.
