By Shaffie A Mtambo

Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City South East, Ulemi Msungama, has urged the church to play a unifying role as Malawi approaches the September 16 elections.

Msungama made the appeal during the launch of a choral competition in his constituency, expressing concern over the prevailing political climate marred by violence.

The MP emphasized the need for intervention from the clergy to promote peace and unity among Malawians.

CCAP Nkhoma Synod Moderator Reverend Masona Nkhoma responded, assuring that the church is working tirelessly to ensure peaceful coexistence among all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.

The choral competition, which features choirs in various categories, is expected to run until August this year.

The event aims to promote unity and harmony through music, aligning with Msungama’s call for the church to play a more significant role in uniting the people ahead of the crucial elections.
