Flora Suya Named Malawi Representative for African Golden Awards

Malawi filmmaker Flora Suya has been appointed as the official representative of the Nollywood African Golden Awards (NAGA) in Malawi. The announcement was made by NAGA’s leader, Percy Monday Edoki, who highlighted the organization’s commitment to promoting African filmmaking talent.

Founded several years ago, NAGA has grown into a leading platform recognizing excellence in African cinema. According to Edoki, the awards aim to uplift filmmakers and provide a stage for creative talent to shine across the continent.

As the Malawi representative, Suya will be responsible for coordinating NAGA activities locally, including managing nominations, events and community engagement.

Edoki emphasized that her role is crucial for nurturing the country’s growing film industry.

“I am thrilled to welcome Flora Suya to the NAGA family,” said Edoki. “Her experience and passion for filmmaking make her an ideal ambassador for our mission in Malawi.”

Suya shared her excitement about the appointment, describing it as an opportunity to elevate the visibility of Malawian films. “It’s an honor to represent NAGA in my home country,” she said.

She added that her goal is to ensure local filmmakers gain recognition and opportunities to showcase their work to a wider African audience.

Suya also highlighted her commitment to mentoring young talent and fostering collaboration between filmmakers.

The appointment is expected to strengthen ties between Malawi and Nigeria, where NAGA is headquartered.

This cross border collaboration could open doors for joint film projects and cultural exchange initiatives.
Film industry observers have welcomed the news, noting that Malawi’s growing cinematic sector could benefit from international exposure and professional guidance. They believe Suya’s leadership will inspire a new generation of filmmakers.
