Tribute flows for Wilfred Kapengule: Hive Band member laid to rest

Musician Eli Njuchi, Lulu, and others gathered to pay their last respects to fellow artist Wilfred Kapengule at HHI in Blantyre on Saturday, marking a somber moment for Malawi’s music community.

Kapengule, a member of Eli Njuchi’s Hive Band, tragically lost his life on Friday along with four other artists in a road accident in Ntcheu while en route to a performance in Lilongwe, leaving fans and fellow musicians in shock.

The incident has sent waves of grief through the music industry, with artists and fans coming together to mourn the loss of the talented young musicians.

The funeral proceedings were attended by notable figures, including musicians and artists, who turned up to bid farewell to Kapengule and offer condolences to his family and loved ones.



Wilfred Kapengule’s untimely passing is a significant loss to Malawi’s music scene, cutting short a promising career and leaving a void in the industry.

The tribute to Kapengule reflects the impact he had on his peers and the music community, highlighting the sense of camaraderie and shared grief.

Artists like Shamiso and Sam Banda Jnr were among those paying tribute, using their platforms to acknowledge Kapengule’s contributions to Malawi’s music landscape.
