The World Vision Malawi has been implementing sponsorships, livelihoods and resilience projects in Chisepo and Kasangadzi Area Development Programs covering areas of two traditional Authorities Chakhaza and Kayembe in Dowa district.
The programs which were being implemented with funds from World Vision Australia and Korea targeted 35,000 people 20,370 children and 14,630 adults have seen several interventions being implemented in Chisepo and Ksangadzi Area Programs.
In Chisepo, World Vision was implementing three projects Sponsorship, Livelihoods and Resilience while in Kasangadzi, there was Livelihood, Resilience, Maternal and Child Health education sponsorship reaching out many vulnerable people of the two Area Programs.

Presenting the updates of Chisepo and Kasangadzi Area Programs to the District executive committee (Dec) in Dowa, World Vision’s District Programs Manager for Dowa Arnold Tsalayekha, said the programs goal was to make a measurable contribution to improved child well- being of 20,370 girls and boys and impact the lives of another 5,000 children of Kasangadzi and Chisepo areas by 2028 and 2031 respectively.
Tsalayekha said World Vision in 2025 partnered with AG Care for Livelihood programs and MAICC for Maternal Child Health which has seen construction of Sungeni village clinic in Kasangadzi, mass screening for Under-Five children reaching out to 3,367 Under-Five children.
He said the interventions in 2025 saw the construction of double class room block at Kasungu Primary school, supporting school feeding through distribution of corn Soy Bland in 42 ECD centres in Chisepo targeting 3,071 children.
The Manager said the 2025 interventions saw the programs supporting needy students with secondary school fees targeting those in top 10 (38 in Kasangadzi, 25 Chisepo and 5 in universities, and supporting 400 farmers with rice and Soy bean seed in Chisepo and Kasangadzi saying 22 ECD centres in Kasangadzi and 33 in Chisepo have gardens.
He said the programs led to the provision of clean water by drilling 10 boreholes in Chisepo benefiting 2,857 people, sanitation, and Hygiene promotion through VSLA, promotion of Corbelled toilets (Mwamuna Apumule) and created print reach schools (TALULAR) in 12 primary schools and 2 ECD centres in Kasangadzi.
“Youth Friendly outreach clinics in hard to reach areas reaching out to 2,012 people, 1,365 youths in Kasangadzi,” said Tsalayekha.
However, Tsalayekha said the programs has been meeting challenges in the course of implementation such as failure by some water committees to maintain broken boreholes, high migration of trained care givers in ECD’s, drug stock out in village clinics and high migration of children and parents to other areas outside the impact areas.
Tsalayekha said the programs created strategies used to address the challenges such as promoting contract agreement with Area Mechanic on borehole maintenance, part of ECD gardens yield used as incentives to care givers, and timely order of drugs from District Health Office (DHO).
He said World Vision has plans for Chisepo and Kasangadzi Area Programs in 2026 such as construction of village clinics, medical staff houses, mass screening of Under- Five children, and supporting 178 needy secondary and university students with fees, among others.
