Popular Malawian singer Abiti Najere has taken to social media to express frustration after discovering that her name is missing from the 2025 Maso Awards nominees list.

Her bold outburst, posted on her official Facebook page, has sparked debate among fans and industry followers, many of whom agree she deserved recognition this year.

In her post, Najere questioned how her music, which has dominated local radio and TV throughout 2024 and 2025, could fail to earn her even a single nomination.

She argued that her songs have been in heavy rotation, trending on social platforms and consistently receiving strong public support. Yet, despite this visibility, her name was nowhere to be found on the awards list.

“What is this, Maso Awards? I’ve checked your list. You included artists like Jetu, which is good but when I look for my name, it’s not there. My songs are everywhere. People are listening. So what really happened?”Najere wrote.

Her post quickly went viral, drawing her followers of reactions within hours. Supporters rushed to her defense, accusing the awards organizers of overlooking female artists and ignoring musicians who command huge grassroots followings. Others questioned the transparency of the nomination process, calling for Maso Awards to explain their criteria.

Najere went further to ask if the voting committee held any personal grudges against her. “What did I do to deserve this treatment?.You always leave me out. This is not the first time. Are these awards based on merit or favoritism?”she asked.

Maso Awards organizing team has not respond this issue.
