Malawi celebrates 61st independence anniversary in Lilongwe

The Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Moses Kunkuyu, has announced that this year’s celebration commemorating Malawi’s 61st Independence Anniversary will take place in Lilongwe.

The commemoration will begin with a National Service of Worship on July 5th at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), where President Lazarus Chakwera will lead Malawians in a worship service, bringing together various faith groups.

The main event will be held on July 6th at the Bingu National Stadium (BNS), where President Chakwera and the Guest of Honour, Duma Boko, President of the Republic of Botswana, will grace the occasion.

The celebrations will feature a range of activities, including a military parade by the Malawi Defence Force, keynote speeches, football matches, cultural dances, musical performances, and other exciting events.

The Independence Day celebrations will be a time for Malawians to reflect on the country’s progress and achievements since gaining independence 61 years ago.

The event will also provide an opportunity for the government to showcase its commitment to promoting national unity, culture, and development.

The guest of honor, President Duma Boko of Botswana, will be visiting Malawi to strengthen bilateral relations and celebrate Malawi’s independence.
