Vice President Usi Reviews Public Sector Reforms with Parastatals and Local Councils

Vice President Dr. Michael Biswick Usi today met with two parastatals—the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA)—and three district councils (Chiradzulu, Mulanje, and Thyolo) to assess progress in implementing public sector reforms. The meetings aimed to evaluate challenges and solutions in advancing governance and service delivery .
Dr. Usi praised the institutions for their proactive problem-solving during reform execution, emphasizing the need to document and communicate the impact of their interventions. “Sharing success stories is critical to mobilizing stakeholder support,” he stated, urging transparency to attract partnerships for sustainable development .

Highlighting financial sustainability as a priority, the Vice President called for deeper engagement with stakeholders to ensure institutions achieve self-reliance and operational efficiency. His remarks align with his broader advocacy for systemic reforms, reflected in his past roles promoting youth empowerment and climate resilience .
The review meetings will continue tomorrow with Neno, Mangochi Municipal, and Machinga councils, followed by discussions with the Malawi Posts Corporation and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation. These sessions underscore the government’s commitment to strengthening public institutions under its reform agenda .
