DPP Alleges Government Mismanaged DRC Fuel Donation, Funds Went to Individual
By Twink Jones Gadama
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has alleged that the government mismanaged a fuel donation from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the funds ending up in an individual’s pocket instead of the government’s treasury.
The DRC government donated 30 million liters of fuel to Malawi, which was sold to the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA).
However, the DPP claims that the funds generated from the sale did not go to the government, but instead were diverted to an individual.
Sameer Suleman, DPP’s Blantyre City South East constituency chair, stated that the party had evidence showing that the funds were not deposited into the government’s account.
“We have proof that the money was paid to an individual, not the government,” Suleman said.
The DPP is questioning the government’s handling of the donation, demanding answers on why the funds were not channeled into the state’s treasury.
“This is a clear case of mismanagement and corruption,” said DPP spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba. “The government must explain why the funds went to an individual instead of the state.”
The allegations have sparked concerns about corruption and mismanagement within the government.
The DPP is calling for a thorough investigation into the matter and for those responsible to be held accountable.
