Abida Mia praises Chakwera for his plan to rename Chapananga road after her late husband Sidik Mia

Member of Parliament (MP) for Chikwawa Nkombezi Abida Mia has thanked president Lazarus Chakwera for his plan to rename Chapananga road  in the Lower Shire after her late  husband Sidik Mia.

In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered in Parliament on Friday last week, President Chakwera announced his Government’s plan to rename Chapananga road in the Lower Shire to Sidik Mia Highway upon completion of rehabilitation work.

In her reaction to the news when she was speaking at Linga Primary School where she conducted a rally to celebrate the life of her late husband, Abida Mia who is also minister of water and sanitation said what the president has done is a great honour to the Mia family and to the people of the Lower Shire at large.

“On behalf of the entire Mia Family, I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to the President for this touching gesture honouring the memory of my late husband. We will forever be grateful for this wonderful tribute,” she said.

On his part,Minister of Homeland Security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma who was also in attendance  urged Mia to take the spirit of her late husband who was very  instrumental in the Malawi Congress Party( MCP).

“Sidik Mia was a great man and we learnt a lot from him. As his wife, keep on emulating what he was doing to MCP and Malawi at large,” said Ng’oma.

Born on March 4,1965, Sidik Mia was a Malawian businessman, politician, and Member of Parliament who held various ministerial positions within the Cabinet of Malawi beginning in 2004.

He served as Minister of Transport and Public Works since June 2020.

Sidik Mia stood as the vice presidential running mate to President Lazarus Chakwera in the 2019 general elections.

He died of COVID-19 related illness on January 12,2021.
