Renowned Governance and Human Rights Advocate Undule Mwakasungula has commended efforts taken by the current government led by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in addressing socio-economic challenges for the past few years despite the country passing through numerous calamities.
In a statement made available to 247 Malawi News,Mwakasungula says despite that various stakeholders have been speaking on government’s shortfalls in addressing the challenges, it is commendable to appreciate efforts being undertaken so far.
The human rights expert states that acknowledging the government’s efforts should not be discouraged, especially given their constructive engagement with International organisations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank and the resumption of essential budgetary support.
He says these efforts reflect a proactive stance taken by both the President and government in addressing the economic challenges which require appreciation.
The rights activist has also hailed the suspension of International trips by the president in response to the prevailing challenges saying this is an indication of leadership that listens and responds to the need of Malawians.
On the other hand,Mwakasungula has acknowledged that such trips are important for the country as they offer opportunities to forge international relationships, attract foreign investments and negotiate support for national development.
