Pedestrian dies in a road accident in Mzimba

Bright Phiri,42, has died after being hit by an unregistered motor vehicle number IT 7175 Mercedes Benz CLA 180 on November 11, 2023 around 18:45 at Kamanga stage along Jenda-Mzimba M1 road in the district.

Jenda Police Station has told 247 Malawi News that on the date and time, Kashum Kumar Rampariya was driving a motor vehicle number IT 7175 Mercedes Benz CLA 180, heading the direction of Mzimba from Jenda.
Upon reaching Kamanga stage he hit a male pedestrian, Bright Phiri now deceased who was crossing the road from right to left due to over speeding.
“Following the impact, the pedestrian sustained multiple fractures on both legs and a dip cut on the head, he was taken to Jenda Rural Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The driver escaped unhurt while the motor vehicle had its wind shield depressed and front part extensively damaged,” says Mseteka.
Meanwhile, Jenda Police Station has advised all road users to always adhere to road safety measures and regulations, such as sharing the road with other users, avoid over-speeding and at all cost avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
Bright Phiri hailed from Mathotela, Traditional Authority(T/A) Mzikubola in Mzimba district.
