According to Elias Chakwera, MCP’s Director of Elections, the party has no intention of conducting a new primary election.

However, Rose Makiyi, one of the candidates who disputed the results of the previous election, claims to have received a communication suggesting that the party would hold a fresh primary election this Friday.

Makiyi quickly noted that the election has since been postponed to a later date.

The disputed election was won by incumbent MCP legislator Enock Chizuzu, who defeated his predecessor Ester Mcheka Chilenje and current Councilor for Kalulu Ward, Rose Makiyi.

Both Makiyi and Chilenje have contested the results, citing irregularities in the conduct of the election.
