MCP NEC member Emmanuel Mwanyongo resigns

A youthful National Executive Committee ( NEC) member for the ruling party Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Emmanuel Mwanyongo has resigned from the party.

Mwanyongo also known as Yongo Wa Yongo told local media on Sunday February 12,2023 that he has also stepped down as a board member for the National Youth Council of Malawi ( NYCM) with immediate effect.

” This is to notify the general public that I, Emmanuel Michael Simeon Mwanyongo also known as Yongo Wa Yongo, having participated in politics for the past six years as the member of Malawi Congress Party ( MCP), I here announce today my resignation as a member of the party and from my leadership role in the National Executive Committee.

“Further to this, the public is also notified that I have also steppe down from the Board of Directors for the National Youth Council of Malawi ,” quoted Mwanyongo in a statement.

The youthful politician did not disclose the reason of his resignation but said he will continue to contribute to the development of Malawi as an ordinary citizen and will not join any other political party.

Meanwhile, several people in the country have congratulated Mwanyongo for his decision.

” Congratulations Emmanuel Michael Mwanyongo for taking such a bold decision that only symbolises the true of you and maturity at its best.

“Congratulations once again..

“Life is a journey of oneself and not a pleasure to someone,” Said Samuel Lwara.

University of Malawi Geological Studies student Propane Kaundo wrote “Welcome brother Emmanuel Michael Mwanyongo to the free world. No more getting orders and unnecessary pressures from above. It is good to be apolitical and concentrate on other important things. What a good decision. Well done.”

And a poet Emmanuel Chikuse said ” Anemu. Your stepping down is an excellent display of integrity. Bravo.”

Mwanyongo is an alumnus of several leadership fellowships among them: Program for Youth Politicians in Africa ( PYPA)-Zambia, Donfang Scholarship on Governance- China, The National Democratic Institute ( NDI), Next Generation Leader’s Academy- Malawi and Mwalimu Nyerere Pan-African Young Leaders Fellowship-Tanzania.

He is also a candidate for the 2023 African Presidential Leadership Program ( APLP)- Egypt.

Mwanyongo is a former President of the University of Malawi MCP wing.

He holds a Mater’s degree in Public Policy and Governance.
