Government interdicts ACB Director General Martha Chizuma
By Dean Chisambo
Government has interdicted the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma from her position with immediate effect.
According to the letter signed by the Secretary to the Office Of President and Cabinate ( OPC), Colleen Zamba on Wednesday February 1, 2023, the interdiction is due to the leaked audio that she disclosed the list of Cabinate ministers and government officials who are involved in corruption case with Indian businessman tycoon Sattar
However, law expert Sylvester Ayuba James says the interdiction is worrisome and discourages the fight against corruption in the country.
” Zamba has no mandate to interdict the ACB boss and this is against the law, the president is the one who has a mandate to fire and interdict the ACB boss and other government parastals,” says James.
He adds that the development will give room to the corruptors to continue siphoning public money because Chizuma is the only one who can eliminate corruption in this country.
On her part, Chizuma’s lawyer Martha Kakunde says her client has received and seen the interdiction letter saying they will be looking forward on it.
President Lazarus Chakwera appointed Chizuma to became ACB Director General in 2020.
