Chakwera delays his return , attending bilateral meeting with UAE President
By Staff Reporter
President Lazarus Chakwera has cancelled his return flight from United States of America where he was attending United Nations General Assembly ( UNGA) and now is in Dubai for a meeting.
Chakwera was scheduled to land at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe at 8AM this morning together with his wife Monica Chakwera.
However, a government statement announced that Chakwera, who has been accused of overstaying in the US where he went for UNGA unlike other leaders from the SADC region, will instead arrive on Tuesday.
Chakwera is said to have stopped by Dubai following a tempting invitation to meet the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyah.
“The delay is due to the fact that upon His Excellency’s arrival in Dubai for his connecting flight, he has been invited by the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to a bilateral meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyah, President of UAE”, reads part of the statement issued by Malawi’s Foreign Affairs ministry.
The Malawi leader left the country for UNGA on September 12,2022.
