Government shows support for families of 2011 protest victims

By Rahim Abdul

The government has announced plans to provide K5 million to each family of the victims who lost their lives during the 2011 protests.

Principal Secretary for Peace and Unity, Elizabeth Gomani Chindebvu, made the announcement during this year’s memorial service, held to honor the memories of those who died during the demonstrations.

The government’s decision is a gesture of goodwill and support for the bereaved families, acknowledging the human cost of the protests.

Chindebvu emphasized that the government recognizes the need to maintain the resting places of the victims, and as such, plans are underway to construct a perimeter fence around the graves.

Furthermore, the government has committed to supporting the families with income-generating activities to help them improve their livelihoods.

This initiative aims to provide sustainable support to the families and help them rebuild their lives.
