NBM launches women’s premiership with Jetu’s ‘Pangolin’ as theme song

By Jones Gadama
The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Plc has kicked off its inaugural Women’s Premiership, adopting musician Jetu’s hit song “Pangolin” as the league’s theme song.
The announcement was made by NBM’s marketing and corporate affairs manager, Akossa Hiwa, in Blantyre, where she also handed over home and away uniforms to FCB Nyasa Bullets Women and Kukoma Ntopwa Women.
These two teams will face off in the league’s opener this Saturday at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
Hiwa explained that the “Pangolin” theme is fitting for the women’s league because the pangolin is a protected, honored, and respected animal in Malawi, mirroring the respect and honor that women deserve.

The original “Pangolin” song, which has racked up over two million views on YouTube, will be remastered to align with the league’s objectives and NBM’s women’s initiatives, including sponsorship of the Malawi women’s football national team, the Scorchers.
Jetu, the artist behind “Pangolin,” expressed pride in having her song chosen to promote the women’s game.
Bullets Women coach Maggie Chombo-Sadiki and Ntopwa Women coach Isaac Jomo Osman welcomed the new uniforms provided by NBM, expressing happiness ahead of the highly anticipated showdown.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions and communications director, Gomezgani Zakazaka, accompanied by National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) general secretary Lustica Gondwe, revealed that the league will run for eight months, with each of the 10 teams playing 18 games.
The league consists of *_10 Competing Teams_*: FCB Nyasa Bullets Women, Ntopwa Women, Mighty Wanderers Queens, Ascent Soccer Academy, Silver Strikers Women, Civil Service Women, MDF Lioness, Moyale Barracks Women, MK Academy, and Topik Academy.

NBM’s sponsorship of the Women’s Premiership underscores its commitment to promoting women’s initiatives and empowering female footballers.
The launch of this league is a historic moment for Malawian women’s football, transitioning from regional leagues to a national premier league.
As the league kicks off, all eyes will be on Bullets Women and Ntopwa Women, who will set the tone for the season with their opening match this Saturday.
This development is poised to elevate women’s football in Malawi, inspiring a new generation of female footballers and providing a platform for talent showcase.
