U23 National Bank Championship Quarterfinals Take Shape After Mzuzu DFA Conducts Draw

The road to glory in the U23 National Bank Championship became clearer on Tuesday after the Mzuzu District Football Association (DFA) conducted the quarterfinal draw at Luwinga Inclusive Academy in Mzuzu.

The brief but highly anticipated event was overseen by Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Chairperson, Masiya Nyasulu, who emphasized the importance of grassroots football development in nurturing future stars for both club and national teams.

Nyasulu said the competition continues to expose young talent that can reshape the region’s football landscape.

Following the draw, Ekwendeni United Reserve FC were handed Mdezu FC in what will be the opening fixture of the quarterfinal stage.

Both teams have shown impressive form in the group stages, setting up a potentially explosive encounter as they fight for a semifinal berth.

In the second match, Kavula Select FC will face Chikombo United FC. This tie is expected to be a tactical battle, with both sides known for disciplined defensive structures and quick counterattacks.

The third quarterfinal will see Tough Rangers locking horns with Geisha FC. Tough Rangers, who have enjoyed a strong campaign so far, will be looking to maintain their momentum, while Geisha FC are determined to prove their resilience on the big stage.

Rounding off the pairings, Chengo FC will clash with Blue Sport FC in what many predict will be one of the most balanced contests of the round. Both clubs have been praised for their fluid style of play and youthful creativity.

Mzuzu DFA officials say the match dates and venues will be announced soon, but preparations are already underway to ensure the fixtures run smoothly.

The winners of the quarterfinal ties will advance to the semifinals as the competition inches closer to crowning the 2025 U23 National Bank Championship winners.

The tournament continues to play a critical role in shaping the next generation of footballers in the northern region, giving young players a platform to showcase their abilities and attract interest from top-tier teams.
