Focus on solutions, not blame: Kondwani Ngwira Kachamba calls for accountability from government

By Burnett Munthali

Kondwani Ngwira Kachamba has taken to his Facebook page with a no-nonsense message addressed to those in government, urging them to stop blaming the opposition and instead focus on solving the country’s economic crisis.

He begins his post bluntly: “Let me say this straight.”

Kachamba emphasizes that the rising cost of living in Malawi should not be blamed on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

He reminds the public that the DPP is not in power at the moment.

“They are not in government,” he states. “They are not running this country.”

He asserts that those in power today hold full authority to make decisions that can positively influence the economy.

Therefore, he insists, the government must focus on fixing the economy rather than blaming others.

As citizens, he notes, it has only been 48 months — just four years — since the current administration took over.

He points out that those who are now being blamed — the DPP — once sold sugar at K660.

He recalls that under the DPP, diesel and petrol were priced at K700.

Fertilizer, he says, was sold for K25,000.

The exchange rate was more favorable too, with the U.S. dollar at K600.

He continues to list other essential commodities, noting that a 50kg bag of maize was sold for K8,000.

Cooking oil was K600 per litre.

Soya pieces were available at K70.

Kachamba adds that when the DPP was in government, they also inherited challenges from the previous administration.

However, he says, they did not blame the opposition for inflation or economic difficulties.

Instead, they solved the problems.

He ends his post with a direct call to action: “Please, I encourage you to solve, not blame.”

He invites anyone who may find falsehood in his message to come forward and point it out.

“I don’t do propaganda,” he declares. “But I don’t shy away from the truth either.”

Finally, Kachamba urges the current leadership and all Malawians to set their eyes on finding solutions, not scapegoats.
