Osman Moves to Restore Order as Kabaza Riders Relocate in Limbe

By Rahim Abdul

Blantyre City’s Mayor , Isaac Jomo Osman, has intensified efforts to restore order and cleanliness in Limbe Township by relocating Kabaza motorcycle operators to designated areas. The move marks a renewed push to improve the township’s outlook and promote safety for both riders and pedestrians.

The relocation follows a meeting held on December 1, 2025, at Osman’s residence, where he engaged Kabaza operators to discuss challenges, expectations and the future of their business within the township.

The meeting aimed at creating mutual understanding and strengthening cooperation between Mayor and operators.

According to Osman, the decision is not intended to shut down the Kabaza business but rather to create a structured environment where their operations do not disrupt traffic flow or public order.

He stressed that the Kabaza sector is important, but it must operate within well-organized boundaries.

As part of the changes, Kabaza motorcycles will no longer be allowed to park at chaotic and congested spots including Standard Bank, Phalombe Hardware, and DAPP.

These areas have long been hotspots for disorder and traffic obstruction, prompting the directive for immediate relocation.

Osman has instructed that all Kabaza operators should now station their motorcycles near the open space close to the ESCOM offices in Limbe. This, he said, will help reduce congestion while giving Kabaza riders a clear and recognized operating base.

He emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader vision to transform Limbe into a cleaner, safer and more attractive township. Improving the town’s general appearance, he noted, requires cooperation from all business players, including Kabaza riders.

“Our aim is not to kill the Kabaza business. We want Limbe to be clean, organized and safe. With proper training for riders, we can also reduce avoidable accidents and ensure a better operating environmet for everyone,”Osman explained.

The Mayor noted that untrained and reckless riding has contributed to preventable road accidents in the area. By reorganizing the riders and ensuring they operate from one location, authorities hope to improve regulation and encourage responsible riding.

The relocation move comes shortly after other informal traders such as vendors, merchandise loaders and minibus operators who were operating in unauthorized areas were also moved to appropriate locations within Limbe. The wider clean-up operation reflects a long-term plan to bring order to the busy commercial hub.
